Objective:  Students will be able to compare and contrast urban, suburban and rural communities.

Procedures: 

  1. Open PowerPoint and choose a Design Template.
  2. Click on first square for title and type:  Communities: Urban, Suburban, Rural
  3. Click on the second square “Click to add subtitle” and type your name.
  4. Save under File, Save as; open your documents folder and save as Communities.
  5. Click New Slide icon at top right.
  6. On this second slide, type: What is a Community?
  7. Click on 1st bullet and type:  A community is a group of people who live or work together in the same place.
  8. Click 2nd bullet and type:  Communities are different sizes.
  9. Make a new slide.
  10. The title of the 3rd slide is:  Urban
  11. Click on 1st bullet and type:  Largest community
  12. Click on 2nd bullet and type:  Many people
  13. Click on 3rd bullet and type:  Large area
  14. Click on 4th bullet and type:  Many cars and mass transit
  15. Click on 5th bullet and type:  People come in from other areas to work.
  16. Go to Insert, Picture, Clip art and type city in the search.
  17. Insert a picture of a city on the 3rd slide.
  18. Make a new slide.
  19. Type Suburban as the title.
  20. Click on 1st bullet and type:  Smaller community
  21. Click on 2nd bullet and type:  Near a city
  22. Click on 3rd bullet and type:  Fewer people
  23. Click on 4th bullet and type:  People may work there or in the city.
  24. Go to Insert, Picture, Clip art and type neighborhood in the search.
  25. Insert a picture on this page.
  26. Make a new slide.
  27. Type Rural as the title.
  28. Click on 1st bullet and type:  Away from the city
  29. Click on 2nd bullet and type:  Small towns and villages
  30. Click on 3rd bullet and type:  People may work in village or on the farm.
  31. Go to Insert, Picture, Clip Art and type farm in the search.
  32. Insert a picture.
  33. Add sounds to slides.  Under Insert, Picture, Clip Art, go to Other Search Options.  Under Results should be, check only sounds box.
  34. Click on slide #3.  In clip art search box, type traffic and choose a sound.  Drag sound symbol to gray area at the bottom.
  35. Click on slide #4.  Type children in search box and choose a sound.  Drag sound symbol to gray area at the bottom.
  36. Slick on slide #5.  Type cow in search box and choose a sound.  Drag sound symbol to bottom.
  37. In Clip Art go back to Results should be and check all media types.
  38. Click on Slide Design and then Animation Scheme and select an animation scheme for the slides.  Then click Apply to all slides.
  39. Check spelling and grammar.
  40. Play your slide show.
